Teaching
I’ve been teaching both undergraduate and post-graduate level since 2016. As an alumnus of the National College of Arts in Pakistan, I support a karkhana approach or mentor-apprentice pedagogy for fostering a student-subject bond. Play is a large part of my learning and teaching process as I encourage all my students to take a reflective approach through practice and research through design methods.
I often take the example of a playground in my classes, where freedom and imagination mingle together to craft new realities. A mentorship approach makes one appreciate the balance of play and work, and I strive to incorporate that in my teaching as much as I can; particularly in my studio classes.
My teaching philosophy thus becomes one of acceptance, patience, and drive. I feel all students in my class must be given the necessary opportunity to absorb as much information presented as possible in a comfortable manner, while being as inquisitive as they feel necessary in the process.
Research Supervision/Mentorship
taking PhD candidates for supervision. ⚠️
I provide supervision or mentorship/guidance for higher degree research candidates/students in the areas of Interaction Design, Design & Play, Research through Design, Ludic Design, More-than Human Design, Posthumanism and Design Practice, Specualtive Design, as well as interdisciplinary research involving design and emergining technologies. Prospective research candidates who may be interested are advised to explore my research profile before reaching out, furthermore given workload and commitments I may not be accepting new candidates for supervision at all times.
Workshop Facilitation/Design
As an academic I am available to provide workshops to interested groups in the areas of Interaction Design, Design Thinking, Design & Play, and Speculative Design. As a researcher I have in the past provided and continue to provide my expertise in crafting bespoke workshops for wicked problem solving. If that is something you would like to discuss, feel free to contact me as I’m always interested in engaging research and industry.
